"Rules" Series Goes to Church

Our series on "The Rules" continues on Thursday, June 18 with David Hare's "Racing Demon" (1990), about four Anglican priests struggling to make sense of their mission in south London. A "fascinating, engaging play" (Gannett Newspapers) that "exemplifies the theater of ideas" (Time Magazine), "Racing Demon" won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Play. Our discussion will feature Jim Petosa, artistic director of the Olney Theatre, where "Racing Demon" opened April 28; & Reverend Elizabeth Orens, senior chaplain at the National Cathedral School. We will meet at North China Restaurant, 7814 Old Georgetown Rd. at Cordell Ave., 4 blocks N of the Bethesda Metro. The restaurant has valet parking for $2 &several inexpensive garages nearby. "Racing" in Maryland

On Sunday, June 21, at 2 p.m., Footlights will attend "Racing Demon" at the Olney Theatre, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., between GA & NH Aves. in Olney, MD. Tickets are $18. Rules, Codes, and Enigmas

On Monday, July 20, we conclude our series on "The Rules with English playwright Hugh Whitemore's "Breaking the Code" (1986), about the life, work, & ultimate tragedy of Alan Turing, who broke the German "Enigma" code during World War II & went on to invent the computer. We have also arranged a private tour of the National Cryptologic Museum, at Fort Meade, MD, for Saturday, August 1, from 2-4 p.m. We have a limited number of tickets, which cost $5. A Roy-al Play by One of Our Own

On June 19-21, Rep Stage at Howard Community College's Theatre Outback, 10901 Little Patuxent Pkwy., Columbia, MD, will present three workshop performances of the award-winning play "Aubergine Days", by Footlights member Roy Berkowitz.
