FROM THE FOOTLIGHTS - July 1996

*SPECIAL GUESTS LEAD US TO SHADOWLANDS*

On Wednesday, July 17, we discuss William Nicholson's Shadowlands (1989), about the unlikely romance between C.S. Lewis, British Christian theologian & academic, & Joy Davidman Gresham, a feisty, abrasive Jewish New York divorcee. As David Patrick Stearns wrote in USA Today, "Nicholson's script has grit, humor, & always rings utterly true."

*Two special guests* will help lead our discussion. Jim Petosa, artistic director of the Olney Theatre, directed Shadowlands @ the Olney in 1993. And Verlyn Flieger, English professor @ University of Maryland, specializes in modern fantasy & has written extensively on C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien.

We will meet @ Luna Books, 1633 P St., NW; dinner @ 6:30 p.m. & discussion starting @ 7:30. Make reservations by return e-mail to [email protected].

You can buy Shadowlands for a *discount* @ Chapters, 1512 K St., NW; Super Crown, 11 DuPont Circle, NW & White Flint Mall; Olsson's, 1307 19th St., NW; & Politics & Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave., NW.

*SURVEY COMPLETED--NEED HELP COLLATING*

With our last snail-mail newsletter, we mailed out a survey asking your views on such matters as when & where we should meet & how we should raise funds. We need help collating the results. Anyone willing to help collate please send a message to [email protected].
